Our Story

Since arriving in the Wirral in August 2022, our founder began conversing with ethnic minority residents and their friends and colleagues. Through these discussions, a troubling pattern emerged. Everyone who had grown up and been educated in the Wirral had either personally experienced racism at school and in the community, or had witnessed their friends suffer from it. Perhaps most concerning was that when these incidents occurred at school, neither the schools nor the authorities took meaningful action. In one case, a mother was forced to remove her 14-year-old daughter from school and educate her at home.

The problem persists today. As recently as 4th June 2025, after a white resident complained to the council about parking outside a school during drop-off and pick-up times, a traffic warden ticketed just one vehicle—that of a black parent. The other parents raised money to cover the fine and are now creating a fund for future incidents of targeting.

This local reality reflects a national issue. In March 2024, when Diane Abbott was targeted with racist comments, she made a telling observation: “Successive Governments and the Labour party have done little to address the issues of racism in the UK.” A simple search reveals a shocking abundance of articles highlighting issues many assumed were resolved decades ago.

Our Purpose

After experiencing racist attacks himself in the Wirral, our founder decided to take action by creating Wirral Against Racism. Our purpose is to:

  • Document ongoing racist incidents in the Wirral and across the UK whilst maintaining victim anonymity
  • Provide skills, expertise, and support to help victims gather evidence
  • Raise awareness of incidents and perpetrators through our website, social media, and events
  • Bring evidence to the attention of authorities, including prosecuting bodies
  • Pursue private prosecutions when necessary
  • Offer educational services to perpetrators through partner agencies
