Since arriving in the Wirral in August 2022, our founder began speaking with ethnic minority residents, as well as their friends and colleagues. Through these conversations, a troubling pattern emerged. Every ethnic minority person he spoke to, or every person who knew someone from an ethnic minority background who had grown up or been educated in the Wirral, reported the same experience: either they had personally faced racism at school and in the community, or they had witnessed their friends suffer from it.
Most concerning of all, when these incidents occurred in schools, neither the schools nor the authorities took meaningful action. In one case, a mother was forced to remove her 14-year-old daughter from school and educate her at home.
The problem persists today. As recently as 4 June 2025, after a white resident complained to the council about parking outside a school during drop-off and pick-up times, a traffic warden ticketed just one vehicle, that of a Black parent. Other parents rallied together, raising money to cover the fine, and are now establishing a fund to respond to future incidents of targeting.
This local reality reflects a national issue. In March 2024, when Diane Abbott was subjected to racist comments, she made a telling observation: “Successive Governments and the Labour Party have done little to address the issues of racism in the UK.” A simple Google search of her remarks reveals a shocking abundance of articles highlighting problems many assumed had been resolved decades ago.
After experiencing racist attacks himself in the Wirral, our founder decided to take action by creating Wirral Against Racism. Our purpose is to:
Every visitor to our platform has the power to drive change. We welcome visitors and supporters from both within the UK and internationally. Share your story, sign our petitions, and join our campaigns. Your voice matters, your action counts, and together we can build the inclusive communities we all deserve.
We are actively seeking professional support in legal, administrative, and accounting services to strengthen our mission and expand our impact. We also welcome volunteers who can contribute just a few hours per week or month, particularly those studying or working in:
• Legal services or studying for a law degree
• Film and documentary making
• Investigations
• Social work, management, or business
• Specialist programmes in charity management, fundraising, or philanthropy
Whilst our focus is on the Wirral, we are committed to addressing these issues wherever they arise in the UK.
