Our Story

Since arriving in the Wirral in August 2022, our founder began engaging with ethnic minority residents, along with their friends and colleagues. Through these conversations, a troubling pattern emerged. Every ethnic minority person he spoke to, or every person who knew someone from an ethnic minority background who had grown up or been educated in the Wirral, reported either personally experiencing racism at school or in the community, or witnessing friends suffer from it.

Perhaps most concerning was that when these incidents occurred in schools, neither the schools nor the authorities took meaningful action. In one case, a mother was forced to remove her 14-year-old daughter from school and educate her at home.

The problem persists today. As recently as 4 June 2025, after a white resident complained to the council about parking outside a school during drop-off and pick-up times, a traffic warden ticketed only one vehicle, that of a Black parent. As a matter of principle, and not financial need, the other parents raised money to cover the fine and are now creating a fund to support future victims of similar targeting.

This local reality reflects a national issue. In March 2024, when Diane Abbott was targeted with racist comments, she made a telling observation: “Successive Governments and the Labour Party have done little to address the issues of racism in the UK.” A simple Google search of her comments reveals a shocking abundance of articles highlighting problems many assumed had been resolved decades ago.

Our Purpose

After experiencing racist attacks himself in the Wirral, our founder decided to take action by creating Wirral Against Racism. Our purpose is to:

  • Document ongoing racist incidents in the Wirral and across the UK whilst maintaining victim anonymity
  • Provide skills, expertise, and support to help victims gather evidence
  • Raise awareness of incidents and perpetrators through our website, social media, and events
  • Bring evidence to the attention of authorities, including prosecuting bodies
  • Pursue private prosecutions when necessary
  • Offer educational services to perpetrators through partner agencies
